I love starting a new project. I look for things that I like and that will also challenge my skills as a knitter and crocheter. I love finding the yarn I want to use, reading the pattern, and then I start getting excited about how it’s going to turn out.

Two Christmases ago, my mum had received a full pack for the Jane Crowfoot Bohemian Blooms blanket and when she showed me what she was going to undertake I was blown away by the work. The intricate detail of each part and the amazing skill that it must take to come up with the construction of each piece. I was fascinated and knew that I would have to get myself something like this to challenge my skill that much further. My mum completed her blanket late last year after much trial and error and she was so happy with how it came out, that the next time I visited she immediately got it out to show me. I was blown away by it and couldn’t fathom the amount of work that goes into the creation of such an amazing piece.

So here we are now and Jane has released a new pattern in a CAL form and when I saw it on Instagram I knew that this project I had to undertake. So I took to her website to see just how I could get in on the action. I found a yarn pack from a local yarn shop and was so excited to order the yarn, a brand new cotton and bamboo mix which I was unsure about at first but now that I have it at home and in my hands, it is beautifully soft and so easy to work with. Then it was a waiting game. I had to wait another 3 weeks before I could get the first part of the pattern and it was killing me!! Luckily I had my amazing shawl that I was still finishing off to keep me going!!!!

When the day arrived, it was thankfully one of my days off that week and I was up early, way too early!! 4am and I was like a kid at Christmas. I sat eagerly waiting for the clock to tick round to 10am when I could finally download the pattern. When the time came I downloaded it and got started. Within a couple of hours I had my first square completed and thoroughly enjoyed the process.

Now it’s two weeks later and I am sat with eight completed squares and eagerly awaiting the next section of the pattern.

Come back next week for the next instalment

Take Care
